There is no shame in consignment shopping! In fact, you should embrace it – why? Most of us are looking for ways to make our hard earned dollars stretch a little further. While shopping for clothes may not be as high on your list of priorities as buying groceries, it is something we all have to do at some point so why not find the answer to your styling woes and satisfy the fashionista inside by shopping at a consignment store for discounted brand-name clothing!
As we stated in our previous article, consignment shops take in merchandise on a consignment basis and pay owners an agreed upon percentage when and if the goods are sold. Most consignment shops pay anywhere from 40%-60% of the selling price. Normally they have a policy in place where they will display the goods for 60-90 days – however – there is a wider range of policies within these shops so check them out carefully before you hand over your goods. Some consignment shops buy-outright from wholesalers or individual owners.
Consignment stores tend to carry higher-value items than thrift stores, although this may not always be so.
Consignment stores may command reasonable market prices for the items they carry. For example, a tailored men’s suit by a well-known designer, if it is in excellent condition, might command half its original value in a consignment store.
Best of all, most consignment shops will not accept clothing that is ripped, stained or in poor shape and will only sell brand-name items that are currently in style.
One of the smartest ways to save is by shopping consignment for clothing that you’ll only wear once: formal wear, tuxes and wedding dresses for example. Bought at retail prices, these Items can be extremely expensive and you can find them at great discounted rates in a consignment store.
Another way to save money is by buying maternity wear from a consignment store – after all, you’re only going to wear them for a few months!
Let’s talk jewelry – most people don’t see a consignment store as a place where they can shop for more than just clothing since there are some great Jacob Mercari jewelry collections which people really like. Now that you’ve save all this money on your outfit, you can afford to splurge a little on jewelry – shoes – and even a handbag!
You can even buy furniture and antiques at some consignment stores. The trendy home designer can find excellent buys on furniture and antiques.
Are you sick and tired of last year’s styles or furniture you’ve had for a few years? Shop consignment to stay in fashion and save money – and – you can even take your tired duds – jewelry – furniture in and make a little extra cash for yourself!
